Overview of Les Carroz

Les Carroz enjoys a serene location in the Grand Massif ski area and is a popular resort with French families (meaning it’s good!), and is a real up and coming resort for British skiers looking for a fun, friendly, family resort with lots of variety. Skiing in the Grand Massif includes not only Les Carroz itself, but also the neighbouring resorts of Flaine, Samoens, Morillon and Sixt, giving access to 265 km of pistes.

The village of Les Carroz sits at 1200m and features traditional Savoie style timber buildings surrounded by glorious mountainscapes and pine-tree-lined ski slopes. Its one of the closer ski resorts to Geneva airport so the transfers are swift - around an hour and a half door-to-door.

Skiing and Boarding in Les Carroz

Les Carroz is great for beginners, with the nursery slopes being secluded and quiet. There are also plenty of gentle blue runs close to resort base area, allowing for progress at a comfortable rate and easy access to ski lifts. Intermediate level skiers can enjoy superb access to the whole of the Grand Massif, and will particularly enjoy the runs back down into Les Carroz itself.

The advanced skiing around Flaine and Samoens is well-renowned as world-class. There are a good number of challenging black runs, and Flaine – famous for its powder bowls - has often relatively quiet top-quality off-piste, compared to other well-known ski areas.

Snowboarders can make use of the two boardercross courses and Oasis Cool Zone snowpark in Les Carroz, which is suitable for a variety of ability levels, and an additional 2 snowparks further afield in the Grand Massif.

Lift Passes in Les Carroz

Les Carroz-only lift passes are only available on a day-rate and even the most novice skier will want to explore beyond the village’s own slopes. The next option is a “4 Villages” pass which includes access to Samoens, Sixt and Morillon as well as Les Carroz.

For anyone intermediate or above, it’s well worth stepping up to the Full Area, Grad Massif lift pass, giving you access to Flaine as well as the other 4 villages. The other great advantage of the full area pass is that you can buy a family pass for 2 adults and 2 children or 3 adults and 1 child, which will help you make a saving.

Activities in Les Carroz

• Mountain Spa – The Aquacîme has everything needed to relax and unwind, with a heated outdoor pool with its vast lawns to relax, a wellness area accessible in the afternoon with indoor zen pool, sauna and hammam.
• Alpine coaster –for a shot of adrenaline head for the Speed Dragoz, a circuit track in the heart of the forest, starting at the Kédeuze cable car and whizzing down through the trees.
• Virtual reality run – Try out the Virtual Reality experience for an even more unforgettable run.  Virtual Reality headset combined descent and 360 degree 3D film during the run. This unique experience not to be missed!
• Airboarding – a fun activity for children and adults alike, enjoy sledding on an inflatable balloon down the piste.

Other activities include an ice rink, cinema, paragliding, ice climbing, snowshoeing and snowmobiling.

Après Ski in Les Carroz

Les Carroz is a much better fit for families than for those looking for serious après-ski, however, there are bars to choose from for an afternoon drink.

• Grizzly - In an atypical setting, pub restaurant located on the pedestrian square. Great selection of Beers and Whiskey, homemade Burgers ... Sunny terrace.
• Le Baratin – a great little spot to enjoy a beer and wine, sit in or take away available. There’s also a cellar to eat, organic and local products.
• Le Marlow- Gets the sun on the terrace all afternoon and features a good choice of cocktails and a variety of draught and bottled continental beers.
• Carpe Diem Pub – A convivial atmosphere with regular live music and all the mainstream sport on TV.

Places to eat in Les Carroz

• Les Servages - The most renowned fine dining option in Les Carroz, located at the base of the piste back into the village. Choose from a la carte or try the Chef’s taster menu for a traditional dining experience.
• Le Marlow – A pub-style menu with lots of choices to suit a whole variety of tastes. Advisable to book in the evening, but also a good option for an early supper straight off the slopes.
• The Bistrot Grill du Gron – If you’re in need of a big feast, this is the place to head to. BBQ style ribs and grilled meats of all kinds to more than satisfy an appetite!
• L'Anfionne - A typical savoyard mountain restaurant near the Plein soleil chairlift departure at the heart of the ski pistes. This quality restaurant offers traditional menus and home-made desserts.
• Aux Petits Oignons - "A.P.O" is an upmarket restaurant serving gourmet fine cuisine in a cosy setting. With a wide choice on the à la carte menu, lunchtime burgers and special of the day.
• La Pointe Noir – with its heated, spacious terrace and cost, warm interior this is the perfect place to warm up after a day on the slopes.
• Le Gron – the go to location for prime beef rib. All meat and fish is cooked on the fireplace, creating an atmospheric evening.
• Milk Hotel Restaurant – with its sunny south-facing terrace, at the foot of the slopes this restaurant has a refreshingly healthy based menu of fresh and mainly organic products. At lunchtime, you will find a laid-back atmosphere with the day’s menu on a chalkboard. The terrace opens up for après in the afternoon and offers a great atmosphere to soak in.

Family Features Les Carroz

As well as the fun non-skiing options in the Activities tab, Les Carroz also offers nursery facilities for children from 3 months to 12 years.

The youngest children, aged from three months to three years, can be looked after in the Souris Verte Nursery in the village centre with the highly-regarded ski school offering ski kindergarten Club des Loupiots in the local snow garden from age three, and then moving on to the standard French national ski levels from age five or six to 12.
