New Year is a big deal in all ski resorts, with parties and events marking the start of the year throughout the week. Here are some examples of New Year's Eve events from some of our most popular resorts to whet your appetitie for a New Year ski holiday...
Torchlight Descent – Unmissable event run by ESF and Ski Cool instructors descending the mountain with flaming torches.
Location: Place Caron, 6pm
Light show and guest DJ’s - Celebrate the new year in style
Location: Roof of the Sports Center – The Board, 9pm
New Year Fireworks - The classic pyrotechnic light show extravaganza
Location: Place Caron, midnight!
New Year Show - DJ's, performers and fireworks for the whole resort
Location: Bottom of Bellevarde face, from 9pm
Alternatively enjoy Live music and big-name DJ’s in the après bars (tickets need to be purchased well in advance, particularly for popular venues like Dick’s T Bar)
Set in the village centre a laser, music and street party, hosted by St Anton Illuminated. At 11:30pm smoke fills the square, house music starts playing, and lasers beam over-head. A huge countdown welcomes in the New Year and the streets are filled with party goers dancing until the early hours.
St Anton heavily promotes environmental protection so their New Year show is anti-fireworks.
Raffl’s Hotel:
Controversially, Raffl’s ignores St Anton’s environmental no-fireworks policy and usually hosts a large firework show! The display can be seen from any location in St Anton and spectacularly lights up the mountains. Raffl’s New Year’s Eve Party at the St Antonerhof offers a live band, champagne reception with canapés, 7 course dinner, late night snack and private viewing of the fireworks. This is a real treat which costs in the region of €555 per person.
Anthony’s Happy Valley Steakhouse:
The Anthony’s New Year Party has been an institution in St Anton for over 10 years. Starting at 18:30, guests enjoy a 7-course gala menu, before moving up to the Hotel Rooftop at 11:30pm. With great views of the town, enjoy a glass of prosecco and see in the New Year by watching the laser and firework displays. Guests can make their way back down to the bar, to party until the early hours of the morning.
Mooserwirt and Krazy Kangaruh are two of the most famous après ski bars in the world, Mooserwirt is rumoured to serve more beer (per square metre) than any other bar in Austria! Both venues host popular New Year’s Eve events.

With such a wide variety of destinations to choose from around the world, it can be tricky to find the right ski holiday for you at any time of the year, and at New Year can be even trickier! Your ideal location could differ depending on your skiing ability, the size of your group, and the type of ski holiday you’re looking for. So here are a few suggestions to help you decide.
If you want to do New Year in the Alps properly, you need to head to Tignes. Here big-name DJs grace the ski resort with a free outdoor party every year. A well as this the fireworks can be seen across the Tarantaise Valley! Tignes is an especially brilliant location if you enjoy a good party.
Val d’Isère is home to some of the best ski slopes in Europe and has a vibrant après-ski that can’t be matched. On New Year’s Eve, head down to the roundabout in the centre of town for an unofficial gathering that offers their own countdown. Remember to look out for champagne corks flying through the air at the stroke of midnight. You may even spot a celebrity or two skiing on the slopes or in one of the many bars.
As we are one of the only tour operators offering ski chalets in USA this season, peak dates such as this sell out quickly. We still have some availability in Vail, which is the largest ski resort in the USA and the largest single ski mountain in North America. Here, at New Year, you can enjoy holiday-themed family activities throughout the day, as well as live performances and star-studded parties all night.
Other ski resorts for breaks at New Year include Les Deux Alpes, renowned for its superb snow conditions and buzzing town centre. Then there is the trendy ski resort of Méribel nestled in the Trois Vallées where the local bars put on their own New Year shaped celebrations after the Torchlit Descent. The more adventurous may wish to venture to Mayrhofen in Austria. Here the fireworks start at midday and the street parties go on all night!
