Chalet Host tips for the start of season

The start of the ski season for chalet hosts is a time of excitement and trepidation in equal measure. Will your cake rise? Will you remember which ski boot goes on which foot? Is this season's style baggy or skin-tight?! And many other equally important questions. We thought it would be good to pass on some experience and give you some tips that might help you settle into the season more quickly...

Chalet Host top tips for the start of the ski season

1. Treat every week of guests as a chance to make a load of new friends – try not to judge people on first impressions, you never know who'll become a lifelong friend.

2. Everyone WILL be tired, grumpy and edgy on transfer day – including you. Just be aware and rise above any negative energy. Tomorrow is a ski day!

3. The little unexpected extras which take you no time at all will make a HUGE difference to your guests. Think; little notes, joining guests for a drink after dinner, offering a cuppa if someone’s late getting out of bed, having a deck of cards ready for games, offering free flapjacks to take skiing...

4. Batch cook if you can and use your freezer space. It’ll save you so much time and may even save the day if you have an unexpected mishap when cooking. Cakes are a great example of this and can be easily defrosted overnight.

5. Ask for help if you need it - with anything. Don’t wait to be saved if you’re struggling. Skiworld is a family!

6. Offer your colleagues help if you have time – you will get it back.

7. Budget your spending money carefully until your first pay day in January.

8. Have a glass of water for every boozy drink until you get used to the effect alcohol has on your body at altitude. It's always good to drink loads of water in the mountains anyway.

9. Get friends or family to post you hangover cure essentials – paracetamol, ibuprofen and supermarket-own brand energy tablets (beginning with 'B', sound a bit like Morocco)

10. Learn to love ESPRESSO

11. Get involved with and volunteer for everything that’s going on, work and play. It's a great way to meet people.

12. Cold showers when you’re feeling mentally and physically tired are scientifically proven to release endorphins into your body which inhibit stress and anxiety and increase alertness, clarity, and energy!

A Bonus Seasonnaire Lifesaver

A double espresso directly before a 20-30 minute power nap will have you waking up invigorated, energised and ready to ROCK. We call this the Café-Nappo.

Just make sure you don't go harder than a double espresso or longer than a 30 minute snooze! Set your alarm, measure your coffee... It's all about getting the balance juuuust right.
