Current Snow Summary — at a Glance

Updated 5th December, 2025

The Alps are in for a mixed but encouraging spell of weather, with mostly dry conditions, patchy cloud and the occasional flurry — plus some brighter spells in south-western regions. New Atlantic fronts will roll in over the weekend bringing milder air and higher freezing levels to the northern Alps. This should pass through quickly before things settle again next week, keeping the slopes in good shape for the beginning of the season for most resorts on December 13th.

Regional Snow Snapshot

updated 5th December, 2025

  • Northern French Alps: Early-December conditions are still excellent thanks to last week’s standout storm, which delivered well over a metre of snow to many areas. Even with quieter weather ahead, there’s plenty of cover to keep things in great shape as the season builds.
  • Southern French Alps: Although snow depths are lighter here, there’s still a solid foundation for early December, offering reliable skiing and lots of potential for the weeks ahead.
  • Austrian Alps: While snowfall has been more modest compared to the north-west, many resorts have a good early-season base and are set up nicely for the run-up to the main winter period..

Practical Info & Booking Tips

  1. Lift passes: To maximise fresh snow opportunities, plump for a full-area pass where available as it will allow you to access all slopes, on all aspects, up to the highest possible altitude in your area.
  2. Transfers: If heavy snowfall is forecast, be prepared for longer mountain transfers in order to arrive safely at your destination. Winter tyres and chains may be required on local roads.
  3. Ski hire: If chasing fresh powder, choose wider skis or consult a reputable local hire shop for advice and match equipment to your level of skill.
  4. Insurance: Ensure your travel insurance covers piste closures and helicopter rescue if you’re planning to ski off-piste.
